This weeks find

This week we were in Honolulu and I asked Roger to stop at the Dillingham Savers (Thrift store), and that's just what we did.

Looking thru the isles for my beloved pyrex and I came across this little bottle

standing somewhat out of place among a bunch of beer steins.

I thought the triangular shape was unique and the design interesting.

Picking it up I went straight to the bottom and there it was stamped 950 Sterling (I know that Sterling is 925, but that category might have changed over the years...you never know).

I got excited and hunted the store for Roger, who was off looking for his own treasures.

He agreed that it was a good find.

The cashier was on our side and rang up part of our purchases so we could fill our 30% off card and then rang up the bottle so we could get an additional 30% off.

As soon as we got home I started combing the internet and came across a few that looked similar to ours and two that looked exactly like ours.

From what I've gathered the decanter (so that's what you call it!) could either originate from China or Japan and dates somewhere between 1880-1920 and it is Silver.

Starting price at auctions is about $75 and it goes up to over $300. All depending on the condition of the filigree and the bottle. Considering we played less than that - I think we made a good deal.

As for our decanters appearance, ours shows signs of being soldered. Maybe not with silver though. It also has some stains that I can't seem to polish out (using my dremel and a polishing kit).

Overall I think it is a pretty cool and lucky find and if the bottle isn't in the condition to command a high price, it definitely has lots of silver and that is rated on a totally different value scale.

The question now is resell or keep?
